Blackberry and Bourbon Recipes
Blackberry Whiskey Smash
A Whiskey Smash is a classic cocktail with just four basic ingredients: whiskey, mint, lemon and simple syrup or sugar. Blackberries give it a tart, sweet twist.
In a cocktail shaker combine 3 teaspoons sugar, 4 mint leaves, ½ a lime, ¼ cup blackberries, and 2 oz Bird Dog Bourbon. Muddle to break up the berries, mint and lime, and to dissolve the sugar. Add a generous amount of ice and shake to chill and combine. Fill an old fashioned glass with ice. Strain cocktail over ice, top off with 2 oz club soda. Garnish with mint, berries and lime.
Blackberries and lemon juice give the Rambler a subtle bite, while orange juice adds a bit of sweetness that compliments the notes of oak and spice in Bird Dog Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
Muddle 3 to 5 blackberries, ¼ oz simple syrup and 2 dashes bitters in the bottom of a shaker. Add 1 ¼ oz orange juice, ½ oz lemon juice and 2 oz Bird Dog Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Fill the shaker with ice. Shake and double strain into a rocks glass filled with shaved or crushed ice. Garnish with an orange slice or a sprig of mint.
